£1.2m Boost for Youth Facilities

  News

The government's Youth Opportunity Fund has provided over £1m to improve youth facilities for teenagers in Oxfordshire. Young people are being invited to provide suggestions on how they would like the money to be spent.

It is an ideal opportunity for youth to have their say in what activities are provided.
The money has been made available until the summer of 2008.

Among the first youths to benefit from the cash were the Vibe Youth Centre in Didcot. The teenagers applied for a grant so that they could go on a weekend residential trip to Osmington Bay in Dorset. Whilst on their trip they took part in outdoor activities including archery, climbing and abseiling.

Following on from the successful outdoor activities, they are now putting in a bid for some computer equipment.

If you would like to apply for funding, have a look on the Directgov website under Young People, Youth Funds. There is now £115m up for grabs.

There are a variety of grants and funding available for assisting with outdoor activities for youth. Have a look in your area so see what you can find. You can post a story about your success here at Active Outdoors.
